Information for Middle School Students

Dear Future Pant Band Members and Parents,

My name is Robert Schoos and I am the Director of Bands at H.B. Plant High School. I am writing to let you know that the time to sign up for Band and all of your other course selections are happening right now.

You may be receiving the programming sheets this week and the information I am providing you in this packet is to help make that process easier and less confusing. “Knowledge is Power” and these forms are meant to empower you in your decision making process. Many guidance counselors are overwhelmed by the mass amounts of students and schedules to be processed and the information you need to make a well rounded decision is not always provided. We have amazing guidance counselors at Plant and they appreciate you, the student/parent, being knowledgeable to what scheduling possibilities are available.

Enclosed in this packet are the following sheets. The 4 Year Band Syllabus provided shows you how all Core/Advanced Placement, Foreign Language, Elective, Social Studies, Band and miscellaneous courses can be completed within 4 years. Many conflicts arise when the “4 year plan” is not looked at and this chart is meant to make that process very simple and straightforward. There is also a 2010-2011 Music Course Offerings sheet that outlines each and every musical opportunity available to you at Plant. Lastly, the FAQs page has the answers to the top questions I receive on a daily basis as well as our philosophy as an organization and my full contact info.

H.B. Plant High School continues to be one of the finest academic institutions in the country as stated in “Newsweek’s Top 100 Schools” for the 5th year in a row! The athletics are second to none in Hillsborough County and we have had 8 State Championship teams in the last 4 years as well. The Band, Orchestra and Chorus at Plant, combined, are larger programs and consistently score as high, if not higher, in contest than the Blake School of the Arts. We continue to excel beyond our school motto “Strength through Unity” on a daily basis and look forward to you becoming a part of this long standing tradition of excellence!

Thanks,

Robert Schoos
